PayTo mandates: consent that software can read.

Before agents can pay for us, consent has to become something software can read.

Most payment consent today is a moment: a tap, a click, a signature. It happens once and then disappears into a terms-and-conditions page nobody reads.

A PayTo mandate is different. It is a record that says who can take money, from which account, how much, how often and until when. The customer can see it, pause it and cancel it from their banking app.

That is exactly the shape agents will need. Not “this software can spend”, but “this software can spend this much, with this business, for this purpose, until this date”.

We usually describe mandates as a better way to collect recurring payments. They may be something bigger: one of the first pieces of consent infrastructure that software can actually read.
